So much more intimate than a big tour bus. He was very knowledgeable about Iceland, of course, but he was also very well read and traveled and able to relate with us regarding American culture and specific details about NYC and Boston. Eva was incredible answering all of our questions and arranging our custom adventures. His knowledge of the country and its history was superb and we can't wait to come back for our next trip!
I would absolutely recommend Pink Iceland to anyone traveling to Iceland. He's been a part of the Pink team since May and we couldn't be happier to have him. After his studies he moved to London and worked for a think tank for a year. In he moved back to Iceland. There were only 4 of us being driven around Iceland in a very comfortable SUV. Besides guiding folks across Iceland, Gudni is also an elementary school teacher and it shows. There was not a lot of people at the pool.
When I went to change, I saw someone put his swim trunks into what seemed like a small osteorizer. Then it dawned on me. It was a small spinner that wrings the water out of your swim wear. I used it, the guy behind me was smiling at seeing my innocence about this.
My trunks came out just barely damp!. I wonder if they have such a thing at the Blue Lagoon or at the other public pools. Gteat trip report, thank you! It makes me want to get on the plane right away instead of in 42 days: Thank you for taking the time writing a detailed trip report. There are many snippets of information in your report such as the one above that I copy and paste into a file I have of all things to note in advance of a trip.
Again, much appreciate your time. Service- I found the service in Iceland to be topnotch. Some I experienced myself, some I saw and heard myself.
The only downside, based on readings and not experience, is Blue Lagoon. On my last day going to the airport, I was with a lady at the Grayline counter. She said her flight came in late. They let her ride the Airport Express. Being late, she missed her tour. Can she reschedule to a later one? Today was the 14 hour South Coast Jokulsarlon tour. I had originally looked at at 3 day 2 night tour combining the Golden Circle and this tour but the price including the single supplement was a tad high.
I also looked into the schedule and it seems we do stuff that I was not keen on or my knees were not. Took Grayline in a bus for 60 with only 24 people. The tour did not seem that long going to the lagoon. The guide made it interesting, pointing out landmarks and giving us a history on Iceland. Great views kept me preoccupied. The stops were well timed, at least for me. Only one problem was one guest walked up all the way to the top of a waterfall forgot the name and took an extra 15 minutes to come back despite the guide forcefully reminding us to be on time because we have a boat ride to catch at the lagoon.
After seeing the stares of everyone, she never repeated it again. Lunch and dinner stops were at Vik. I brought pack meals. I ate my lunch outside in the wind and cold as it was not fair to bring it inside a restaurant. But there is a better place. There is a hallway that you enter 2 entrances to get inside the mini-mall. In there near one of the entrances are the restrooms and directly opposite the restrooms is Kronan's.
There is a long, chest high, table no chairs like a counter table where you can eat and charge your phone away from the cold and wind.. It has 4 charging ports too. I ate dinner there and was the only one. I also checked out Kronan and you could buy ready to eat salads and sandwiches in case you do not want to prepare your own meals. Originally wanted to do Perlan , rush back to Kolaportid, and then the afternoon Golden Circle tour.
But I decided to decompress and moved my Perlan to tuesday. All it took was just to message on Facebook Perlan. They got back to me and that was it. No need to reprint the ticket or anything. I walked to the Solfaris statue and then on to Harpa to check out Bus stop 5 and see Harpa itself. From here it was a short walk to the Kolaportid flea market. As reported, not really cheap but you do get to see some stuff that could be considered inexpensive or downright a bargain.
Found the fish seller and had the hakarl. It had a strong ammonia smell. I pinched my nose and the hakarl itself did not taste that bad. But take my report with a grain of salt. I love exotic foods. I have tried daing stinky dried fish , balut partially developed duck embryo , scorpion, and even silk worm. Had the afternoon Golden Circle Express tour with Grayline. Had the same guide again. Big bus but not full. Had two seats to myself. I love the afternoon tour.
We were the only big bus at all 3 stops. The tour guide said most of the big busses were there in the morning. That is probably because I cannot walk fast. The other places- just enough. Even more than Niagara falls. Back to the city, had dinner at Icelandic Street Food. I did find it taste good but overrated. For roughly the same price, Svarta Kaffid , which I did two days later, was better. That night, at pm. I decided to change my Lava tour from the p.
Called up Reykjavik Excursions. There was a spot so no problem at all. Less than 5 minutes. Top notch service at close to midnight. Separately, how was WOW Air service, space, etc? Was it on time? Were travelers complaining about baggage fees?
What was the weather like? In which place did it feel the coldest and was it actually a big deal? On how many days of your trip did it rain? Did you feel it was better spending more time outside Reykjavik than you did within it? RE essentially just provided the transport. The actual Cave tour was a company operating the tour itself at the site. Without seeing other Lava Caves, I can only comment on what I expect of a Lava Cave based on this cave and the Raufarsholshellir was simply amazing.
A guide made things even more significant. She mentioned that they always had the extreme caving tour but the short one the one I was on was free. Last year or the year before that , the owners I think the SDA church changed it because the tourists- broke off the lava straws which unlike icicles, don't ever grow back and they had to remove a ton of garbage in just a few months. They didn't respect the cave and the private property. Guess mankind is not kind to nature.
At the cave, saw those bacterial mats growing that I read about. The guide also had us all turn off all the lights so we could experience real total darkness.
Got this thru a post here in TA. They were out of Sheep's Head. They said they normally cook a large batch.
